Tuesday, October 22, 2024, 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Description

This session, hosted by the SMPTE Study Group on Sustainability in Media, explores the evolving landscape of sustainability standards and practices within the media industry. While still in the early stages of identifying areas for potential standardization, the Study Group has started collaborating with key organizations like Greening of Streaming, ITU-R, and ATSC’s Planning Team 9, which have been actively involved in sustainability initiatives. These partnerships are aimed at gathering insights and use cases in media production and consumption that could benefit from future SMPTE standards.

Join us for updates from these organizations, as we share their progress and findings related to sustainability in media and data delivery services. The session will feature insights from Robin Hérin, co-chair of ATSC’s Planning Team 9, who will present learnings from their 18-month study on sustainability aspects of broadcast and hybrid broadband delivery. The collaborative nature of these efforts offers a glimpse into the potential future standards and recommendations that SMPTE may develop to promote sustainability in the media industry.
