Honoree Bio
Alex Forsythe is the Senior Director of Science and Technology at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where he leads the staff of the Academy’s Science and Technology Council. With over 17 years at the Academy, Alex has held various leadership roles, including Director of Imaging Technology and Imaging Engineering Manager. He serves as the project director and technical lead for the development and implementation of the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES). Before joining the Academy, Alex worked as an Imaging Scientist at Intel Corporation and a Research Engineer at Eastman Kodak Company, focusing on imaging technology, color science, and new business initiatives. He holds a Master's degree in Printing Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology and is currently pursuing a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Color Science and Cinema Technology at Simon Fraser University. Alex has been part of teams that received several awards, including the SMPTE Workflow Systems Medal and a Primetime Emmy Engineering Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He regularly contributes to the development of industry standards in cinema and imaging technology as a member of SMPTE and the US technical advisory group to ISO TC-36.
