Low-latency viewers of the 100m Olympics sprint knew the winners before the standard-latency viewers saw the start of the race. This is probably the most succinct and striking example of the importance of low latency and why premium sports became the main driver for it. This paper describes an ultra low-latency pilot run by a number of operators as a part of the IBC’25 Accelerator program in a number of diverse geographic locations. The recently introduced extension of MPEG DASH, L3D-DASH (low-delay low-latency DASH), maintains compatibility with both the LL-DASH and LL-HDS low latency systems while further shrinking latency.
