As the media and broadcast industry continues its transition from SDI to IP, embraces software- and cloud-based solutions, and adopts usage-based commercial models, new opportunities arise to increase flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability. The Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) reference architecture offers a framework for utilizing resources in a modular and adaptable manner, supporting modern production workflows. A key development in this space is the Media Exchange Layer (MXL)—a collaborative effort among leading industry vendors to create a vendor-independent SDK for media transfer. This paper presents a real-world technology use case, developed in collaboration with media suppliers such as Grass Valley and LAWO, demonstrating how media resources can be dynamically managed in live production planning today. The use case illustrates both current capabilities and remaining barriers—particularly in advance planning of dynamic resources.
