Since 2015, Trinity College Dublin has delivered a Master's-level "Motion Picture Engineering" (MPE) module within the School of Engineering, uniquely combining core principles of compositing and video streaming. In 2025, to address the wide variance in student backgrounds—ranging from deep learning practitioners to those new to image processing—we developed and deployed a domain-specific AI Teaching Assistant (AI-TA). The goal was to offer targeted, course-aware support using Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), aligning with the same AI paradigms now influencing visual effects and media workflows. Our paper presents a technical overview of the RAG implementation, including document embedding strategies, vector store tuning, prompt engineering, and UI integration.
