Live production workflows are on a sure journey to the core production processing components being compute-based. As this technology evolution unfolds in 2025, there is industry work underway to create a system for native compute-to-compute media interconnect (led by the EBU DMF/MXL). Most standards relating to live production systems have focussed on specifying interfaces (SDI, ST2022-6, TR-04, ST2110) but have not necessarily considered end-to-end system requirements necessary for a wholistic solution. This presentation will unpack the system-level challenges, explore the current industry proposals and look at what else is going to need to be defined to ensure we have a complete solution that can deliver all that is needed.
