Kenichiro Masaoka received his BS in Electronics Engineering and MS in Energy Engineering in 1994 and 1996, respectively, from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, and his PhD in Engineering in 2009 from the same institution. He was named a Fellow of the Society for Information Display (SID) in 2021 and is the recipient of the 2025 SID Otto Schade Prize for his contributions to image quality, including BT.2020 colorimetry, ultra-high-definition (UHD) TV visual performance evaluation, the invention of gamut rings for color capability assessment, and modulation transfer function (MTF) measurement methods for digital cameras and electronic displays. He currently serves as chair of the Subcommittees on Color Metrology and Spatial Measurements for the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM).
