Olivier Barnich serves as the Head of Innovation and Architecture at EVS. He graduated from the University of Liège in 2004 with an engineering degree in electronics, and later earned a PhD in computer vision from the same university in 2010. During his research tenure, Olivier significantly advanced the field of video background subtraction, publishing peer-reviewed articles and presenting at international scientific conferences.
In 2010, Olivier joined EVS Broadcast Equipment, where he helped establish the EVS Innovation team. Under his leadership, the team launched the software-defined server initiative, leading to the development of a new generation of IP/IT-native servers.
Recognizing the growing impact of artificial intelligence on computer vision in 2016, Olivier expanded his team by hiring data scientists to explore how these technologies could enhance live broadcast productions. This exploration resulted in several product innovations at EVS.
Currently, Olivier leads the EVS Innovation Team, guiding the development of new products and features from conceptualization through prototyping to final implementation. Since 2022, he has also been responsible for overseeing software architecture company-wide, providing strategic direction and ensuring technological and architectural consistency.
