Yukihiro Nishida, Ph.D., has dedicated over 40 years to pioneering advancements in broadcasting technology and international standardization. During his distinguished career at NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories (STRL), Yukihiro led groundbreaking R&D and standardization initiatives globally. His technical expertise spans foundational media formats—including HDTV, UHDTV (featuring wide color gamut and high frame rates), and HDR-TV—as well as digital broadcasting systems and media quality assessment. A cornerstone of his legacy is his extensive leadership within the ITU-R, where he served two consecutive terms as Chairman of Study Group 6 (SG 6) from 2015 to 2023. In this role, he guided the development of numerous Recommendations and Reports integrating AI and immersive media into broadcasting. Notably, he made profound contributions to Recommendation ITU-R BT.2100 for HDR-TV, a landmark achievement recognized with the 75th Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy® Award. In Japan, he has long participated in the ITU Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ (MIC) Information and Communications Council, as well as the Broadcasting Technology Development Committee of the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB). Since 2022, he has chaired the ARIB Standard Assembly.
