Got Color or Imaging Research? Submit to MTS2025!

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers® (SMPTE®), a leader in motion-imaging standards and education for the communications, media, entertainment, and technology industries, is seeking technical papers for Color Imaging focused track for the SMPTE 2025 Annual Technical Conference , to be held 13 – 16 October 2025 at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91101. 

SMPTE Media Technology Summit 2025 

Color, Vision, and Imaging Science for professional motion-imaging workflows is a dedicated conference at SMTPE 2025 MTS for color and imaging scientists, researchers, and practitioners to share their original technical contributions and evidence-based outcomes with impact to professional motion imaging workflows. Authors are expected to include preliminary data, results, and conclusions, to be expanded in a final manuscript. 

Accepted work will be shared with the global community in one of two submission tracks:

Extended summary (up to 1500 words) summarizing key results & methodology with figures

Proceedings papers will be considered for, but are not guaranteed, publication in MIJ 

Provisional 20-min talk; final slot confirmed upon submission of a satisfactory full paper by 30 August 2025

CONFERENCE TOPICS 

Color, Vision and Imaging Science  MTS2025, a dedicated track for color and imaging scientists, researchers and practitioners to share evidence-based outcomes with impact to professional motion imaging workflows 

 

Technical papers are invited in, but not limited to, the following: 

 

Color Vision and Adaptation for Motion Imaging: color appearance phenomena, vision adaptation, visual psychophysics, observer metamerism, psychological effects of color, spatial and temporal color vision, human-centered digital color processing, color appearance models (CAMs), environment-dependent rendering 

 

Color Capture and Reproduction: image capture technologies, color sensing, color resolution and CFA design, color demosaicking, display technologies, high dynamic range (HDR), wide color gamut (WCG) 

 

Motion Imaging Illumination and Lighting: Color rendering, color mixing, light projection, illuminant metamerism, multi-illumination imaging 

 

Color Correction, Image Encoding and Image Processing:  color encoding spaces, digital color management, tone and gamut mapping, color transforms, color workflows, color grading, image style transfer, compression 

 

Color and imaging science for VFX and CGI: material appearance capture, synthetic view generation, computational imaging, appearance reproduction and modeling (gloss, translucence, etc.), color rendering, physical-based rendering, image re-lighting 

 

Color and Image Processing for Virtual Production:  LED panel design, virtual art department color encoding, LED processing, color transport, camera-to-LED calibration, metamerism 

 

Color Theory: colorimetry, uniform color spaces, expanded color spaces, models of color perception, mathematical models of color 

 

Image Quality: perceptual quality indices, color difference metrics, color preference, color fidelity, color accuracy, color charts and testing, image pipeline validation methodologies 

 

Emerging Color: Pipelines for Motion Imaging: 360-degree video, AR/VR/XR color imaging, volumetric capture, AI-supported color processing, generative-AI color, spectral imaging, multiprimary capture and display
