Matching the color balance of shots within scenes of motion pictures is a crucial early step during the grading process that lays the foundation for the creative work of the colorist. To speed up this process, we propose an automated matching algorithm that takes perceptual effects as well as scene-specific context provided by the temporal arrangements of the shots in the edit into account. We highlight the difficulties of quantifying time spent on matching and indicate that we can better demonstrate the time-savings potential of the algorithm in a more controlled further study using additional metrics that will be performed for the final paper. We believe that we have demonstrated the effectiveness and real-world application of the proposed approach.
