Kent Terry is currently Senior Manager, Sound Technology with Dolby Laboratories in the Office of the CTO. With Dolby since 1992, he was part of the team that developed Dolby Digital for the ATSC 1.0 system, for which Dolby received an Emmy award. He was also part of the Emmy award winning team that developed Dolby E for distribution of multichannel audio in broadcast distribution networks, and a key contributor to technology recognized by Dolby's Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Emmy Award. A member of SMPTE since 1996, he has been an active participant in SMPTE standards technology committees and has contributed to numerous SMPTE standards, including standards for conveying coded audio and other data on AES3 interfaces. He has presented several papers at SMPTE annual conferences and been published in the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal. He is the recipient of SMPTE’s 2011 Journal Award. He is currently chair of the San Francisco Section and was a Section Manager from 2017 to 2020. He has Bachelor and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a member of the AES.
