Call for Technical Papers

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers® (SMPTE®), a leader in motion-imaging standards and education for the communications, media, entertainment, and technology industries, is seeking technical papers for the SMPTE 2025 Annual Technical Conference (SMPTE 2024 Media Technology Summit), to be held 13 – 16 October 2025 at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91101.

As the global hub for media professionals, technologists, and engineers, SMPTE is dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge digital innovations, fostering groundbreaking discussions, and promoting meaningful peer engagement and networking at our annual conference.

The upcoming Media Technology Summit will spotlight the latest innovations in processes, tools, workflows, interoperability, and standards—alongside other groundbreaking initiatives driving the industry forward and ensuring consistent excellence in the seamless creation, management, and delivery of media content.

Original, unpublished manuscripts that meet the above goals will undergo multi-peer review when submitted as abstracts. Abstracts should be between 300 and 400 words and will be accepted from April 1 to May 31, 2025. Following this period, the conference program committee will conduct peer reviews and notify authors of decisions by June 30, 2025. Submitted abstracts should clearly demonstrate originality, essential research findings with at least preliminary results, and address technical theory, research, innovation, application, or practice relevant to evolving technologies in the media and entertainment industry. Previously published, product-specific, commercial, sales, or promotional papers will not be considered for this conference. We strongly encourage the submission of Student Papers, fostering the next generation of talent and innovation within our industry.

Authors of selected papers will be invited to present at the world's premier peer-reviewed Media Tech forum dedicated to the exploration of media and entertainment technology. Furthermore, these manuscripts will automatically be considered for publication in the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal, subject to a separate post-event peer-review process.
