Call for Technical Papers
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers® (SMPTE®), a leader in motion-imaging standards and education for the communications, media, entertainment, and technology industries, is seeking technical papers for the SMPTE 2025 Annual Technical Conference (SMPTE 2024 Media Technology Summit), to be held 13 – 16 October 2025 at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E Green St, Pasadena, CA 91101.
As the global hub for media professionals, technologists, and engineers, SMPTE is dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge digital innovations, fostering groundbreaking discussions, and promoting meaningful peer engagement and networking at our annual conference.
The upcoming Media Technology Summit will spotlight the latest innovations in processes, tools, workflows, interoperability, and standards—alongside other groundbreaking initiatives driving the industry forward and ensuring consistent excellence in the seamless creation, management, and delivery of media content.
Authors of selected papers will be invited to present at the world's premier peer-reviewed Media Tech forum dedicated to the exploration of media and entertainment technology. Furthermore, these manuscripts will automatically be considered for publication in the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal, subject to a separate post-event peer-review process.
Call for Submissions: Two Tracks Available
We are now accepting submissions for MTS2025 under two distinct tracks:
1. MTS2025 General Programming Track

Abstract Length: 300–400 words

Deadline: [Insert deadline if known]

Submissions should demonstrate originality and present essential research findings, including at least preliminary results. Topics must address technical theory, research, innovation, application, or practice relevant to the evolving technologies in the media and entertainment industry.

Abstracts with a commercial, promotional, or product-specific focus will not be considered.

Student papers are strongly encouraged as part of our commitment to nurturing emerging talent in the field..
2. Color, Vision & Imaging Science Track
Journal Track

Submission: Full, publication-ready manuscript (up to 5,000 words)

Deadline: July 15, 2025

Accepted papers will be published in the peer-reviewed SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal.

Authors of accepted papers will receive an automatic 30-minute presentation slot at MTS2025 in the Color, Vision & Imaging Science program.
Conference Proceedings Track

Submission: Extended summary (up to 1,500 words), including key results, methodology, and figures

Deadline: July 15, 2025

Submissions will be considered for publication in the Motion Imaging Journal but are not guaranteed.

Provisional 20-minute presentation slots will be assigned, with final confirmation upon submission of a satisfactory full paper by August 30, 2025.
